Plenty of Newcastle United fans have been reacting to reports linking us with a move for Napoli star Dries Mertens.
The 32-year-old has been outstanding for the Serie A outfit over the years and his contract is due to expire at the Stadio Sao Paolo at the end of the current campaign, becoming their all-time top goalscorer in the process.
Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport (via Sport Witness) reported previously that the Magpies had thrown their hat into the ring for the Belgian’s signature.

The report adds that there is no update from Mertens himself as to whether he will accept Gli Azzurri’s contract offer. However, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, this could be delayed for some time.
With this in mind, supporters were excited over the prospect of Mertens coming to Tyneside and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that he would go straight to Newcastle if an agreement could be made.
