A few Newcastle supporters have been reacting on social media lately, after Steve Wraith, a well-known figure on Tyneside, shared details on how our owner Mike Ashley handled the announcement of Rafa Benitez’s exit.
The club confirmed the Spaniard would not be signing a new contract on Monday, meaning he will leave the Magpies at the end of the month after three full seasons in charge.
There have already been a number of high-profile head coaches to throw their names into the ring to replace him, as well, but it seems the club never informed Benitez that they were going to be making the announcement on Monday.
Wraith, best known as a boxing promoter and Newcastle fan, claims there were emails exchanged between Benitez, Managing Director Lee Charnley and Ashley over the weekend, where it evidently became clear an agreement would not be reached.
Rafa not actually told that the statement was going out by #nufc today. An exchange of emails was last contact between parties. First @rafabenitezweb and team knew about todays statement was a good friend ringing them to tell them it was on sky. Classy Very classy????????

The announcement of Benitez’s impending exit was then made on Monday, but the first the boss or his team knew of this was when a good friend rang the Spaniard to inform him after seeing it reported on Sky Sports News.
Fans who have seen Wraith’s claim have been taken back by yet another evident show of disrespect by Ashley, with some not even the slightest bit surprised.
Here’s how these fans reacted…
