Huge blow as Magpies’ talisman out for the season

|

Newcastle United have been dealt a huge blow ahead of their final three Premier League matches of the season with top goal scorer Callum Wilson again being ruled out.

Wilson was ice cold in front of goal during the 4-2 win at Leicester and really showcased what he can offer to United going forward.

The injury picked up by Wilson is a hamstring knock which he is said to have come by in the massive win at the King Power.

Wilson’s ability in front of goal is undoubtable but Toon fans may now have serious worries of his ability to stay fit for the course of the season.

Out of the 38 games we have played, the forward has played in just 26. Such is the huge influence Wilson has when on the team sheet, you really notice his absence and you realise how much of an asset we could have on our hands if he could stay fit for the entirety of the season.

The notch up 17 goal involvements in his first campaign for the Magpies is an incredible achievement for the 29-year old.

It is also a bitter blow to any chances he had of being called up into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the European Championships this summer. With games coming up against already relegated Sheffield United and Fulham; Wilson would have had the perfect chance to show the England boss what he can offer.

With the squad size being increased to 26 as well, Wilson will feel that he had a brilliant chance of making the cut. He has previously been picked by Southgate and has scored when given the chance for the Three Lions too.

It’s a good job that Premier League safety has been secured as we have seen the extent of Newcastle’s struggles without the brilliant Callum Wilson in the side.
