‘Hell yeah, baby’ – These Newcastle fans react to supporter’s positive transfer comparison

|

It has been rather doom and gloom on Tyneside recently, so one Newcastle fan on Reddit has attempted to make the mood a bit better by trying to create a positive transfer comparison with Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs were the only Premier League side last summer to opt against making any signings across the entire transfer window, and continued that into the winter as no new arrivals put pen to paper in North London during the 2018/19 season.

Despite the lack of arrivals, Mauricio Pochettino guided his side to another top-four finish and reached the Champions League Final, and now the United fan in question has suggested it is time that we replicate Spurs’ success without splashing a penny.

Currently, we stand as the only English top-flight side that are yet to sign any new players, whereas most clubs have at least added one name to their books, or seven in the case of the recently promoted Norwich City and five for Aston Villa.

The comparison with Tottenham starts to struggle when you look at outgoing players, though, as Spurs only lost fringe and academy players last summer, whereas we have already lost our manager and both of our top goalscorers from last season, with one in Ayoze Perez joining a direct rival for the lower top-half places and the other in Salomon Rondon linked with two of our other opposing sides.

Even the most optimistic supporter would struggle to be excited at the comparison that can be made with Tottenham.

Here’s how these fans reacted…
