Steve McClaren is once again the ‘odds-on favourite’ for the Newcastle job but could former Leeds, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker, currently in charge of Burton, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink be ‘in the frame!’

If the Sun is to be believed, words ‘the Sun’ and ‘believed’ not often used in the same sentence, then yes Hasselbaink indeed is a potential option to become the next manager of Newcastle.

When you take into account that he lost just three of his 30-matches in charge, which included 19 wins, since stepping in to takeover from Gary Rowett in November it’s fair to say that in guiding Burton to the League 2 he’s done a good job but League 2 is quite different to the Premier League isn’t it, even if JFH is familiar with such a level as a player previously.

Reports claim that despite the fact McClaren is, as he had been when in employment, favourite again following his sacking by Derby on Monday the 43-year-old is on the shortlist we’ve drawn up?

It would be somewhat ironic if JFH did end up getting the job ahead of McClaren as it was him that, I think, gave him his first break into coaching as he was part of his Nottingham Forest coaching staff a few years ago….

One day I’d expect him to manage in the Premier League but next season with Newcastle, I’m not so sure and would think McClaren would be more likely, not that I’m completely sure it’ll be him either to tell the truth!
