‘Handled everything badly’ – Many Newcastle fans react to ‘worst singular thing’ Ashley has done

|

Many Newcastle supporters have been discussing on Reddit what the ‘worst singular thing’ Mike Ashley has done since he took control of our club twelve years ago.

There have been many incidents during his ownership of the Magpies, so fans reacting to the thread have not been short of things to discuss.

One of the prominent incidents mentioned by supporters sharing their feelings on Ashley’s tenure was the time he chose to rename our cathedral of football, our home, St James’ Park, the Sports Direct Arena.

It was also under his ownership we spent four seasons with payday loan provider Wonga splattered across our kits, in a controversial deal that was slammed by MPs, as well as us fans. The deal, though, brought £24million to the club.

Ashley also brought Joe Kinnear back to United to act as our Director of Football, in a role which placed him in charge of all football-related matters, with then manager Alan Pardew and Chief Scout Graham Carr working under him.

If he does not resolve Rafa Benitez’s contract situation, the Spaniard’s exit this summer will be sure to become just another notch on his torrid record.

Here’s what some Newcastle supporters have shared while reacting to the thread on the ‘worst singular thing’ Ashley has done since buying the club…
