It wasn’t a very good day for Newcastle United news yesterday; we had the usual and expected transfer speculation that few fans can bring themselves to even mildly believe in and there was something or other about Mike Ashley seeing another opportunity for profit in a business not based at St James’ Park.
The clubs’ social media team did at least do their best to try and brighten the mood of fans though and they went back to 2010 for one of the #OnThisDay pieces.
October 31 2010 saw Newcastle hammer five goals past local rivals Blunderland and we took a 5-1 victory on home soil.

The highlights clip would’ve raised a few smiles yesterday and I see no reason why it won’t achieve the same today, but like so many things at the club it seems in 2018, even the smiles are bittersweet as plenty hanker for more exciting days like that again where there was at least hope we would and could compete.
Probably couldn’t beat the training cones.

Sadly, offerings like that now do tend to garner the same responses but you have to take the joy where you can.
