Grealish Finally Speaks About His Almiron Comment

|

Better late than never, Jack Grealish has finally spoken out about the jibe he made about Miguel Almiron back in May that has turned our Paraguayan winger into a world-beater.

For those who need a refresher, in May during the title-winning celebrations, Manchester City’s Jack Grealish had an unnecessary dig at Miguel Almiron, saying that Riyad Mahrez was subbed off in the last game for playing like Almiron. A completely uncalled-for dig at a fellow professional. Newcastle fans were, rightly, up in arms about the comment, but Miggy never said a word. In fact he let his performances do the talking and he came into the 22/23 season reborn.

Almiron has since addressed the comments saying they had no bearing on his form and wished Grealish all the best. Now, seven months after the fact, Grealish has broken his silence on the comments.

Grealish did confirm to The Guardian that he reached out to former teammate and Newcastle player, Matt Targett to get in touch with Almiron to apologise, but Targett said  “Jack, he’s a lovely kid, he’s harmless and he doesn’t speak a lot of English … he won’t really be bothered,” going on to explain that he didn’t want to reach out via social media as it would likely add fuel to the fire – maybe he’s not as dumb as he looks.

Is All Forgiven?

Too little, too late

It's in the past and Miggy is mint

He went on to talk about Almiron’s response also addressed the fact that he got a lot of stick from Newcastle fans and accepts that it was justified:

“I thought: ‘What a guy,“because if that was me and somebody had said that about me, I’d have probably been the other way and been like: ‘F**k it.’ I didn’t realise it was a video to go out but even in private I shouldn’t have said it because he’s a fellow professional. I’ve had a lot of stick off the Newcastle fans and rightly so.

“I like to enjoy myself and I just go with the flow but I do some stupid stuff sometimes that I do regret. When I next play against him, I’ll show him the most respect because that’s what he’s done in a situation where he probably didn’t have to. I genuinely hope he does keep scoring – as long as those Newcastle fans stop messaging me.”
