Newcastle United are tasked with a near-impossible task this afternoon, when they meet Aston Villa, at Villa Park, with the object of winning the game by at least a two-goal margin.

The Toon will also hope that neither Hull, nor Sunderland can pull a win out of the bag in their clashes against Chelsea and Manchester United respectively.

The odds are stacked against the troubled Toon, and Alan Shearer has been tipped to lose his battle against relegation by the majority of pundits around the UK, and with opposing fans jeering the club on, the Magpies have to come up with something special if they are to stave off doom.

The North-East clubs will be keeping their fingers crossed – one praying against the other, but it remains to be seen who the Gods will shine on today.

There has not been final drama such as this in quite a while, and it is the first relegation scrap Newcastle United have been involved in since their promotion to the Premier League.

The D-Day clash kicks-off at 16:00 BST, this afternoon.
