Fabian Schar has proven to become sort of a fan favourite since joining Newcastle last season, and the Swiss defender has now taken his goalscoring explosives to the international stage.

The centre-back scored the opening goal for Switzerland last night in their 1-1 draw against the Republic of Ireland, and although Schar’s side were unable to get the vital three points against Mick McCarthy’s stubborn side, Newcastle fans were delighted to see their star defender get on the score sheet.
Here is how some Toon supporters reacted to Schar’s impressive goal on Twitter…
Give him a massive pay rise or he'll be off..
Sorry, I'm forgetting who I've just tweeted.

Schar isn’t the only Newcastle player to be on international duty this week as the likes of Miguel Almiron and Martin Dubravka have also been called up to their respective nations as The Chronicle report.
