With talk in the past centring on Newcastle relying too much on the French market, a lot of our alleged targets for the forthcoming season are from there.

For every success at Newcastle that one of these Anglo/French deals has, someone else will always point at a failure in it although from my point of view there are very few.

Remy Cabella and Florian Thauvin are the last two players that didn’t really hit the heights here but taking a small loss in a gamble isn’t the end of the world for me as there’s plenty of others that have more than bridged the money gap.

We can point straight at Moussa Sissoko on that one with a player bought for £2.5m then sold for £30m just 3 and a half years later.

We can also say it’s a good deal we did in buying Yohan Cabaye for £5m and then selling him for £20m just 2 and a half years later although when you consider we’re football fans not celebrators of the financial sheets, it’s never good selling your best players but that’s beside the point im making in the market being of interest.

Other notable profits include Mathieu Debuchy being bought for £5.5m and going for £12m which is even better when the players involved dont even want to be here.

Buying players just to fatten up and prepare for market is a feat that contributed to our recent downturn before Rafa Benitez came in and although the policy may have been tweaked slightly now with less emphasis on profits alone, we will still be looking favourably at Lique 1 and it’s branches.
