Turning 24 yesterday, Oba Martins celebrated in style with an easy header past a static West Brom defence. Despite turning in a typically erratic performance, the Nigerian bagged his first since the opening day draw against the Mancs following a spell on the sidelines at St James. Delighted to cap his birthday with a goal he said:

“I wanted to make sure I celebrated my birthday with a goal. The best part of the birthday present was that we won. It`s the best present I could have hoped for. It was a great cross from Habib Beye and a good header as well. I`m happy and the whole dressing room was too.”
