“Find it hard to disagree” – These Newcastle fans react to pundit’s verdict on leading Toon man

|

A few Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media after Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas suggested the Toon have been ‘very impressive’ away from home under Steve Bruce.

Nicholas voiced his opinion ahead of our trip to Sheffield United on Thursday night, who have won three of their seven home games since returning to the Premier League this season after a 12-year hiatus from top-flight football.

The Blades have triumphed at Bramall Lane over Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Burnley, while holding Manchester United to a 3-3 draw in their last league game played on home soil.

We, meanwhile, have taken six points from a possible 21 on the road this season, with victories at Tottenham Hotspur in August and a 3-2 triumph at West Ham United last month.

Bruce’s Magpies have also been humbled when playing away from St. James’ Park, with last season’s Championship title winners Norwich City tormenting our backline, Leicester City hitting us for five, and Aston Villa allowed to keep the spoils in Birmingham after two defensive errors gifted Dean Smith’s side vital set-pieces.

Nevertheless, Nicholas has suggested our away form this season has been ‘very impressive’, and lauded Bruce for leading the Toon since succeeding Rafa Benitez on Tyneside.

What will the result be against Sheffield United?

“They are very impressive away from home, but lack a bit of the cutting edge,” Nicholas said of Newcastle in his mid-week predictions for Sky Sports. “Bruce has brought the passion back, and they are nicking points here and there.

“I think the Newcastle fans are accepting what Bruce can do with a fairly average bunch. He is doing a much better job than what Rafael Benitez did.”

Here are some of the messages shared as fans reacted to Nicholas’ verdict…

In other Newcastle United news, the club are reportedly moving to sign a record-breaking wonderkid appearing on a dominant Euro giants’ radar.
