‘Feel a bit deflated’ – Some Newcastle fans react to reports 5 ft 9 ace wanted summer move away

|

Newcastle supporters have been reacting on social media lately, after the Manchester Evening News claimed Sean Longstaff wanted to secure a move to Manchester United this summer.

The Magpies ace remains a summer target for Red Devils head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but is yet to see the North Shields-born star arrive at Old Trafford for a medical as Executive Vice Chairman Ed Woodward is yet to meet Newcastle’s £50million asking price.

The Manchester United chief at most values 5 ft 9 Longstaff at £30million, and has so far been unwilling to improve his assessment on a player who has nine Premier League appearances, one goal and one assist to his name.

New Toon boss Steve Bruce is also unwilling to lose the midfield anchor so soon into his tenure, as the former Sheffield Wednesday manager sees Longstaff as one of the best rising talents on Tyneside.

Longstaff, though, was believed to be keen on securing a move away from St James’ Park, with sources close to the player alleged to have told the MEN that he wished to finalise a transfer by the end of June.

What has held back their advances is Woodward’s decision to work on one target at a time, which has seen only Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James arrive as negotiations with Leicester City for Harry Maguire have been a continual string of obstacles.

The Red Devils began targeting a new centre-back during the last week of June, and are no nearer to finalising a deal, meaning Longstaff’s future will continue to be in discussions until the window slams shut on August 8.

Here’s how these Newcastle fans reacted to reports sources close to Longstaff confirmed he wished to leave for Manchester United before the end of June…
