Only Newcastle fans know how tough it’s been to be a Magpie over the last few years, with poor ownership and mixed results really costing us on more than one occasion. Fortunately, under Rafa Benitez, things are improving, though of course, with Ashley at the helm, anything could happen.

Former Newcastle ace Rob Lee has been discussing the St. James’ Park faithful with TalkSport, and he’s heaped praise upon the passion and desire that they’ve shown during some really tough times.

He said: “The fans are fantastic. Considering what they’ve been through on and off the pitch over the last few years, they’re still behind the manager and the team.”

“The fans will always support their club”, he added.

These comments will certainly go down well with fans, but there’s no denying that he’s absolutely right. Any other fanbase could well have crumbled after all that we’ve been through in recent years. Take Chelsea, for example. They’ve had a few tough months and Sarri is already the enemy of the people. They don’t know the half of it!

From poor transfers to relegation to general fan frustration, it has not been an easy few years, but hopefully, we’re past the worst of it. Even if Mike Ashley is still in charge.

We’ll continue to remain supportive of the team forever, and our passion and desire will never reduce. And it’s great to finally see that recognised. As Lee has intimated, it’s simply in our DNA.
