Lots of Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media to reports by The Sun, claiming the Magpies are interested in signing free agent striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

The former Togo international is chasing a return to the Premier League ahead of Friday’s deadline after leaving Turkish side Kayserispor last month, where he scored just two goals in eight appearances.

Adebayor has previously played in the Premier League for Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace, but is alleged to have unfulfilled dreams in the division.

The Eagles released Adebayor at the close of the 2015/16 campaign after he scored once in 12 top-flight appearances, which moved his Premier League account to 97 and the 35-year-old aims to reach 100 before retiring.

Eclipsing Didier Drogba’s haul of 104 league strikes is also something Adebayor covets achieving, as it would make the 66-time international Africa’s all-time leading goalscorer in the Premier League.

Newcastle, Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion are each said to be interested in offering Adebayor a chance to fulfil his final Premier League ambitions, which would add a forward with 11 career goals in the Champions League to one of Steve Bruce, Dean Smith or Graham Potter’s sides.

Toon boss Bruce is hoping to complete a deal for a striker to join him at St. James’ Park before Friday’s deadline passes, though it is unlikely to be 35-year-old free agent Adebayor after the Shields Gazette stated he is not a target.

But here are some of the messages shared as fans reacted to the initial reports linking United with a move for Adebayor…

In other Newcastle United news, Bruce has been given late hope of landing a €40m striker after a key deal collapsed.
