According to the Chronicle, Elliot Anderson’s new contract at Newcastle United was met with satisfaction behind the scenes at St. James’ Park.

Having impressed in the Magpies’ U23 win over Leeds United recently, the Scotland youth star penned a new deal late last week after an impressive rise up the ranks. Included in the match day squad for September’s win over Newport and training with the first-team, the attacking midfielder is seemingly highly-rated behind the scenes.

Steve Bruce and Shola Ameobi are understood to be likely to meet to discuss the 18-year-old’s future and a loan move is thought to be a possibility amid previous interest from clubs in League One and League Two.

Spotted playing for the famous Wallsend Boys Club as a youngster, Anderson has been with the Toon Army since the age of nine and spoke of his admiration of the likes of Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa, who he watched as a youngster.

The Longstaff brothers represent the last academy products to make the first-team and Anderson isn’t the only highly-rated youngster. Indeed, Bobby Clark (son of Lee) recently took part in the BBC’s ‘Wonderkid Challenge’ and looks to be an exciting prospect too.

Newcastle’s academy may not have the best reputation in terms of supplying first-team talent but things are certainly looking up at the moment on the potential front.
