Newcastle United are in talks to offer Sean Longstaff and brother Matty new contracts at St James’ Park, according to The Times.
Sean Longstaff was the focus of grand speculation over a move to Manchester United this summer, but Newcastle chiefs held firm in their reluctance to sell, having slapped a staggering £50million asking price on the North Shields-born prospect.
The Red Devils were reticent to matching United’s alleged asking price, and the Toon board now intend to reward the elder of the Longstaff brothers with another improved contract to better reflect his worth to the club.
At present, the 21-year-old is believed to be earning around £25,000-a-week, after signing an improved deal following his promotion into the senior squad last December under Rafa Benitez.
Now, though, he could be set to secure improved terms that would move him closer to Jonjo Shelvey and club-record signing Joelinton, with The Times suggesting Newcastle may present a contract worth as much as £80,000-a-week to the midfielder who has played just ten top-flight games in his career.
Matty Longstaff is also in consideration for a new deal at St James’ Park, as the 19-year-old defensive midfielder is out of contract next summer, but performed well in his outings with the senior side during pre-season.
It remains to be seen what terms are tabled to the teenager, but a similar deal to that of Sean Longstaff’s current contract could be in the pipelines if Steve Bruce plans on introducing the academy star in the first-team this term.
The younger of the Longstaff brothers is yet to make his competitive senior debut for the Magpies, but has 42 U18s appearances and 30 Under 23s outings to his name, I which he has recorded six goals and eleven assists, according to TransferMarkt data.
Here’s how these Newcastle fans reacted to The Times’ suggestion of new contracts for the Longstaff duo…

Thats also a chance for Ashley to insert a buy out clause and secretly release it to potential buyers.

If the club want Sean on a long term deal it’s so they can command a higher sell on fee no other reason – like holding onto the best players ????????♂️????????♂️????????♂️
