‘Don’t hold your breath’, ‘Fingers crossed’ – Newcastle fans pessimistic on club’s future

|

The Newcastle fans were far from optimistic when they were discussing on social media the state of uncertainty the club finds itself currently.

The Magpies are in the process of a takeover as owner Mike Ashley attempts to sell the club after 12 years at the helm. The club finds itself in a tough situation with the buyout in place and the small matter of Rafa Benitez’s contract set to expire. The Spaniard will be free to walk on July 1st and has an offer from the Chinese Super League club Dalian Yifang, according to the Sun.

Although the Times report Rafa has been offered a one-year extension, he is not likely to sign it until assurances are made over transfer funds.

The Middle-East company set to buy the club, the Bin Zayed Group have said they expect the takeover to be complete by the end of the month. Although there has been no comment from the club itself.

The Newcastle faithful, however, do not believe the buyout is close, with some believing the deal still has more chance of collapsing than being finalised. The fans do not expect the takeover or Rafa’s contract to be dealt with anytime soon…
