Maybe a sensationalised headline, although for those of us familiar with our club, we don’t think so.
Here is a bloke who fell out with our own Hatem Ben Arfa when he was manager of Marseille, so much so, that Hatem went on strike to force through his loan to us two years back and Deschamps has been trying his best to get the Newcastle hate mob on his back even further by making some strange comments regarding one of our stars.
The star in question is Yohan Cabaye, our very own Geordie Xavi, as titled by the one and only Spanish coach, Vincente Del Bosque.
Deschamps was quoted by Sky Sports as saying ‘The national team is above everything, you can play at the greatest clubs, but there is nothing stronger than winning with the shirt of your country’,’
‘I can give you an example – Yohan Cabaye. He didn’t change his status because he joined Newcastle, it is because he has been called into the French team and he has matched expectation.
‘Nowadays no-one could imagine the French team without him. But why?
‘You really believe people look very closely at his performances with Newcastle? No, he got his status with Les Bleus, thanks to his good work for the French team.’
Personally speaking, the comments made by him are at their best, cocky and at the worst, offensive. The fact that 52,000 or so fans are screaming his every move at home games with many thousand doing the same away, not to mention the staff that work with him during the week on his game play. It all helps him grow as a player.
Ive seen Cabaye have some ordinary games but witnessed some utter genius play in other games. He is without doubt one of the Premier league’s top midfielders and only because he’s adapted his game, not because of his games for France, in which he’s only played around 19 games or so.
I sense a bitterness against us, probably due to the Ben Arfa deal or maybe something else. Not sure what though.
