Lamine Diatta only arrived at St James’ in January, signing a short-term deal with the Toon but Kevin Keegan has decided that he does not feature in his future plans so he has been released.

The Senegal captain could stay in England however as Bolton could be interested in his services, so they say anyway.

Are the Toon right to let Diatta go, or could he have been given more of a go?

Another player released recently was young Australian star James Troisi, but he is insistent that he bares no ill filling against the club as a result: ‘There were no surprises,’ Troisi told the Chronicle. ‘I’ve had a long chat with Kevin Keegan and there were discussions about things, and basically he thought it was better for me to get some first-team football.

‘He really didn’t promise anything. He’s going through some tough times at Newcastle and he wants to buy some fresh players.’

Troisi is still without a club at the moment but says that he has options in Europe, but if he can’t fix himself up with a club before he is hoping that competing in the Olympic Games with Australia will see him do enough to win himself a contract somewhere.
