It seems ages since the last game that Newcastle United played and amidst thoughts that these international breaks are no good for fluidity, they bring around other concerns.

Regardless of which teams we play in whichever order, we all play the same teams at some point at home and away, so the forthcoming fixtures are the least of these concerns.

The biggest for me ahead of the uncertain path that we’ll tred in the January transfer window is the defence and with it being our strongest asset this season, it’s biggest test is ahead.

Newcastle yesterday released a video of training on social media ahead of the weekend game at Man United which mainly reported the continued progress of Paul Dummett in his return from long term injury.

One person missing was club captain and potential player of our season so far in Jamaal Lascelles.

He’s usually well featured in these sort of things and since his injury in our last game, it was said he could be struggling for the next game and so it looks like proving.

With Rafa’s next press conference not due for a day or two to clarify, it causes a couple of concerns for the weekend with Ciaran Clark playing for Ireland last night and Chancel Mbemba playing the other day for Congo. It’s a usual policy for Rafa to leave out players that have missed being here on Tyneside for training.

Also missing from here was Deandre Yedlin who played for America on international duty to leave only Javier Manquillo and Florian Lejeune as our sole members of the defence to be briefed.

If I could predict the back four for Saturday then at a guess id go with a not quite prepared, Yedlin, Mbemba, Lejeune, Manquillo. Hope im proved wrong.
