Newcastle United have announced that Kevin Mbabu has left the club on a permanent transfer.

The 22 year old defender was loaned out to Young Boys of Switzerland for the whole of last season and it seemed a good move for him to get some more experience in his home country.

Playing 15 games in Switzerland, it was expected that he would come back to Newcastle and fight for the left back spot before the undisclosed permanent deal was confirmed.

Mbabu played 3 times for us overall but when he had an excellent game against Chelsea in 2015 at a time when everything seemed to be going downhill about the club, this performance probably gave too many people some false hope that he could be the next big thing.

Since then, injury and form has made the decision for Rafa Benitez quite easy with his age starting to go against him.

Newcastle released a statement about the move by declaring:

He joined Newcastle as a teenager from Servette in January 2013 and after injuries restricted his initial progress, Steve McClaren handed him a surprise debut in a Capital One Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in September 2015 before pitching him in for a Premier League bow against Chelsea three days later.

He also had a loan spell with Rangers and made a total of five appearances for the Magpies in all competitions. The club wishes him well for the future.
