Spanish media today reported on one of Newcastle’s alleged transfer targets

Spanish paper Marca said that talks involving us and Eibar’s Florian Lejeune were progressing and that it looked likely that he was going to move here.

The paper had quotes from a director of La Liga side Eibar saying that he was expecting to lose the player within a few days.

Fran Garagarza on saying that Lejeune was close to leaving said:

I`m not very optimistic, I see it difficult for Lejeune to stay.

We are worried that Newcastle are taking very strong steps.

Frenchman Lejeune has been linked with Spurs and Arsenal recently but there’s been various stories saying that we had triggered an alleged £8.7m release clause and that we would pay the cash up front.

There’s also the unofficial opening of the transfer window now so some movement could happen in the next few days as it’s common knowledge that Rafa Benitez likes his business done early and with pre-season training starting in just over 3 weeks, time is starting to run out.
