‘Completely wrong system’, ‘Refuse to believe’ – Many NUFC fans react to video of player

Plenty of Newcastle United fans have responded on Twitter to a video shared by a fan of some of Joelinton’s best bits at Hoffenheim.

With the Brazillian forward being given the famous number 9 jersey, as well as being bought for the club record fee, he hasn’t been able to live up to the hype just yet.

So far, he has played every single game this season, starting 16 of them, scoring just once and assisting one.

While Newcastle have been doing pretty well in the league so far, Steve Bruce’s 5-4-1 hasn’t been particularly profitable for the forward positions. His side has only scored 17 goals from as many matches – and wingers and strikers have only scored two of those goals.

The Twitter page @NUFCblogcouk tweeted a video of Joelinton’s best bits from his spell in Germany, to which many fans responded claiming at he was being mismanaged by his manager, and would be better off in a less advanced and lonesome role.

Considering that he cost £40m, the 23-year-old has not been able to perform to the ability that many of the fans would have hoped.

So far this campaign he has averaged 6.73/10 from his matches – the 10th highest in the squad.

On the weekend, he started on the left-hand flank in replacement of Allan Saint-Maximin in a front three of himself, Andy Carroll and Christian Atsu. With injuries to Almiron, Saint-Maximin and Matt Ritchie they had their arm somewhat twisted to play this formation, but it was safe to say it hardly produced fireworks as they lost 1-0.

It didn’t work for him on the weekend, but it may be a position he is utilised more in throughout the season.
