“Come home”, “We miss you” – These Newcastle fans react to ex-star’s Twitter post

A few Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media to a recent post shared by Salomon Rondon, with many calling for the Venezuela striker to “come home”.

Rondon spent last season on loan at St. James’ Park from West Bromwich Albion, having moved to the North East as part of the deal that saw Dwight Gayle move to the Hawthorns for a year in the Championship.

Both sides benefited from the temporary transfers, as while Gayle would hit 23 goals in the second-tier to book the Baggies a spot in the Play-Off Semi-Finals, Rondon scored 11 times in the Premier League.

Rondon’s haul of top-flight strikes included match-winners against AFC Bournemouth and Huddersfield Town, while netting the equaliser when we beat Manchester City 2-1 and the first as we came back from 2-0 behind to beat Everton 3-2.

The Venezuela international’s efforts at St. James’ Park impressed a wide percentage of the fanbase, and would see that he was named as our Player of the Year after being involved in 47 per cent of our total goals for the season.

A permanent move to Tyneside was on the cards this summer, too, but the club was reluctant to trigger his £16.5million release clause due to the forward turning 30 in September and the time remaining on his West Brom contract.

Would you take Rondon back in January?

Yes, absolutely

It's time to move on

Rondon, himself, wanted to stay at St. James’ Park, but knew his future was elsewhere when Rafa Benitez was unable to agree on a new contract, and later joined the Spaniard at Dalian Yifang.

Rondon scored three goals in his first three appearances in the Chinese Super League, but has not found the back of the net since.

He is clearly enjoying his time in China going by a recent post on Twitter, though, as he shared a snap of himself enjoying a spot of sightseeing.

Here are some of the messages shared in response to Rondon’s post…
