With Sunday`s crunch game against Bolton swiftly looming, Chris Hughton has raised the stakes in the hope of Jonas Gutierrez getting a start. With Spiderman`s long running Mallorca compensation scheme also set to be settled in a deal worth about £4m, which is a bloody big improvement on the £15m mooted at some stage, it looks set to be a busy period for the winger. Hughton said:

“With all players, they`re going to go through periods of ups and downs where they`re in and out of the side. Going back to the last game, we as coaches had quite a nice situation. We were able to keep the same team that played against West Brom together and he found himself in the position of coming back from an international break and not playing for his club side.

That is testament to the lads who played but it is credit to him as well. He has continued to be excellent around the place – he`s a big personality. The level of his training hasn`t dropped. He knows he`s very much a big part of what`s going on here.”
