Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha has described speculation linking him with a move to St. James’ Park as being ‘funny.’

The England U21 International was the subject of a bid from the North-East club in the January transfer window, but City refused to sell.

When asked about his Eastlands future, Onuoha said: ‘Of course I want to stay here.’

He went on to dismiss a move to the Magpies club by making the matter trivial.

‘It was quite funny the number of people who were telling me where I was alleged to be going in January.

‘But that is not important because my job is here and I am enjoying it.’

It is understood that if United fail to lure Onuoha, they will try their hand at Fulham centre-back Brende Hangeland.
