“Cherry on the cake” – Many Newcastle fans remember “class” moment by Arsenal flop

|

A lot of Newcastle United fans are discussing the time Henri Lansbury scored an own goal at St James’ Park to hand the Toon a 2-0 win over Aston Villa.

The former Arsenal man had annoyed many of us earlier in the season when he got Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett sent off in a 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Lansbury missed the reverse fixture at St James’ because of an injury but joined Villa in the January transfer window.

He was booed for the whole game, and in the second half, he managed to stab a Jamaal Lascelles effort into his own net.

The stadium announcer saw an opportunity, and he took it – rather than saying it was Lascelles’ goal, he announced that it was indeed an own goal by Lansbury, and the 29-year-old’s embarrassment was complete.

St James’ erupted with joy as Lansbury tried to get himself untangled from the Gallowgate End net.

Was that Nottingham Forest match the worst of the 2016/17 season?

Yes, it was a disgrace

No, others were worse

It was the ultimate revenge, and these Newcastle fans are talking about it ahead of Monday’s match.
