Championship side have sights set on £3.15m rated Newcastle player – report

|

Leeds United have identified Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow as a target, according to Football Insider.

They claim the Yorkshire club are keen to offload Kiko Casilla this summer and see the Magpies shot-stopper as an ideal replacement.

Leeds only signed Casilla six months ago from Real Madrid but are already looking for a buyer to take the 32-year-old off their hands.

The report also suggests Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa and director of football Victor Orta have drawn up a shortlist of goalkeeping targets with Darlow’s name featuring highly on it.

Darlow failed to make any Premier League appearances last season, with his only game coming in the EFL Cup, so a move could be tempting if he wants more first-team opportunities.

The move may make sense for Newcastle too. He only has one year remaining on his contract so they may feel, this summer would be the time to cash-in on him, before being able to leave for free next year. He is valued at £3.15million by Transfermarkt.

Football Insider also states that the 28-year-old almost made the move to Elland Road in January prior to Casilla’s arrival but a deal could not be agreed between the two clubs.
