The links to Celtic’s Stilian Petrov appear to be gathering pace. Reports suggest that Souness is looking to swoop for the Bulgarian midfielder in the January transfer window. Petrov, who is rated at around £3million (by whom I’m not sure!), has only 18 months left on his contract so Celtic might choose to let him go whilst they can still command a fee for the player.

Souness, it is claimed, sees 26 year old Petrov as an ideal replacement for injury prone Kieron Dyer.

Blackburn boss Mark Hughes has also been linked to the player and hopes former team mate Bellamy can tempt him to join Rovers.
