Break Comes At The Right Time For NUFC

Just over a year ago, we were drowning without a paddle with a slip down the leagues both wanted and expected, such was the disharmony, discontent and lack of direction.

Recent performances have allowed some people to revert to type without them really looking at the bigger picture although we’ve still been picking up points no matter how hard we’ve made it look.

I reckon a very high majority would have ripped your arm off for being in the position we find ourselves now with only eight games left. Five of them at home.

In a nutshell with Eight to play and in an alternative mini league type viewing with our position in mind.

NUFC – 0 points but can get to 102

Brighton -1 behind but can only get to 101

Huddersfield -7 can get 98

Leeds -9 can get 93

Reading -11 can get 91

Sheff Wed -16 can get 86

Fulham -17 can get 85

With goal difference in mind also, you can take another point off every team bar Brighton but we can afford one more loss at present without it damaging our automatic hopes at all. The more losses our rivals have, the more we can get away with.

As it stands, SIX wins and TWO draws guarantees promotion but with each defeat or draw by Huddersfield or Leeds, that requirement goes down although winning our next TWO home games will put one foot in the premier league mentally. A feat we should achieve.

Hopefully this little break we have now will allow the squad to refocus on what our August ambitions were.
