Titus Bramble might not have been a favourite with the Toon Army but the St James’ faithful that had to put up with his catalogue of errors over the years were probably the most forgiving but after explaining why he rarely speaks to the media these days (as he feels the attacks on him became personal) he finished by launching an attack on the Toon Army: ‘The Newcastle fans aren’t as good as everybody says,’ Bramble told The Evening Chronicle. ‘They think that they should be winning things – but why? They haven’t won a trophy for 50 years.

‘It was the fans that got Sam Allardyce the sack there. Can you believe that? The fans up there are powerful, but I think he would have brought them success.

‘Maybe I should have left Newcastle to get first-team football earlier.’

During his five-years with the Toon he made more errors than could be remembered yet although he didn’t escape without abuse from the terraces those that went through the gates were more forgiving than most, and cut him more slack than he was getting from most quarters so it is a surprise that he should decide to launch this attack.

I wouldn’t have thought that Bramble has done himself that many favours here so should expect a frosty reception when Wigan return to St James’ next season, that is assuming they keep him and he plays?
