Ryan Barrett has signed his first professional contract at Newcastle, according to the player’s Twitter page.
The 18-year-old defender’s post was met with somewhat of a mixed reaction from fans. Many of the responses were just supporters wishing the youngster good luck, but some were quick to point out that they thought he was making a mistake.
However, he was overjoyed and said he was delighted, describing it as a very proud moment for him and his family.
The right-back is a former Wales U17 international and played eight games last season, four in Premier League 2 and four for the U18 squad.
As well as playing in defence for Newcastle he has also played in midfield, and his versatility could prove to be an important asset if he can work his way into the first team.
Unfortunately, there was no mention of Barrett signing his first contract on the official club website or on their Twitter page.
However, some fans still saw the player’s announcement and shared their reactions to the news…

Best of luck young lad. I hope you and NUFC benefit from your career. You are in a position thousands of youngsters would love to be in – stick in and enjoy everything it brings.

Bit pointless really. You should have signed for a more ambitious club like Bristol City. Completely ruined your career signing for Ashley United.
