Just when you thought, just perhaps, this season might be different, we’re brought crashing back down to earth.
Although Newcastle’s activity in the transfer market hasn’t been as prolific as we’d all hoped for, it hasn’t stopped, as is the case with most clubs, those anticipation levels rising as a new season approaches.
But those anticipation levels were diminished last night as, over in Portugal, Newcastle were not just beaten by Braga, but given a sound thrashing, with Newcastle losing 4-0.
With the opening fixture of the 2018 / 2019 Premier League season, against Tottenham Hotspur, just nine days away the heavy defeat has drained our confidence.
Following the defeat and as reported by the BBC, Rafael Benitez had this to say about the state of affairs at Newcastle United, remarking,
“Things are not going well off the pitch and you can see a reflection of that on the pitch.
“You see the teams that have been promoted, the money they are spending. Put it all together and you understand why the fans need to be concerned.”
Does anyone else sense, if things don’t change in the coming days, it could be another long, hard season?
