Lots of Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media, after Eurosport France’s Manu Lonjon claimed the Toon had held talks over a deal for Galatasaray forward Ryan Babel.
Babel joined Cimbom in the summer as a free agent following his release by Fulham, whom he signed for in January 2019 in a bid to save the Cottagers from relegation back into the Championship.
The 33-year-old Dutchman struck five goals in 16 Premier League games for the South West London side, who ended the season inside the bottom three having won just four of the matches Babel featured in.
He has since remained among the goals for Galatasaray will playing as a left-winger, centre-forward and right-winger, with Babel hitting five in 15 Super Lig fixtures, though failed to score in the Champions League Group Stage or against Akhisarspor in the Turkcell Super Kupa.
Babel’s time at the Turk Telekom Stadium may soon be over, though, as Lonjon has claimed Newcastle and Ajax chiefs have discussed potential moves for the 63-cap former international.
Would you welcome Babel to St. James' Park?
Yes
No
It is not specified whether these were internal discussions at St. James’ Park and in Amsterdam, formal approaches to Galatasaray or with Babel’s agent Winny Haatrecht.
Babel signed a three-year contract with Galatasaray upon his arrival at the Turkish giant, and is their joint-leading goalscorer in all competitions with Younes Belhanda.
