Newcastle have had difficulty in previous years booking pre-season tours or tournaments due to the issue of not knowing for certain which division the club would be in.

This year and with a little bit of extra time to plan, some familiarity could be on the cards.

The Chronicle
has said that Rafa Benitez fancies going back to Ireland like they did last Summer for a period of time.

The attraction is simple to me, a place that is neither exotic or with distraction but more a tranquil place where team bonding has more chance of happening in a more comfortable environment than trailing around the world.

The squad went to County Kildare for a week last July just a few days after the players returned to pre-season training. The training camp ended with a game against Bohemian and if we do the same again this time then im guessing it will be another Irish side that we face in a friendly.

This could be any number of sides but aside from last year’s game, we have faced Bray Wanderers back in 2005, Derry City at Lansdowne Road in 1997 as part of a tournament where we also faced PSV Eindhoven, plus we’ve played Shamrock Rovers in 2009.

News should be confirmed in the near future.
