‘Ashley’s boom bust cycle’ – Many Newcastle fans react to ‘don’t laugh you’ll cry’ prediction

|

Newcastle have entered the ‘if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry’ situation according to one United supporter on Reddit, after the Magpies were jokingly tipped to finish bottom of the Premier League table in the 2019/20 season.

It is almost traditional to see end of term predictions come to the fore with a new campaign on the horizon, and one suggesting it is too early to tell where clubs will end up next May implied United would be 20th after 34 games, with just 14 points to our name.

That is the same record Huddersfield held at that stage last season, as the table used for the prediction was taken from the Premier League standings as of April 19, a time when we sat in 15th with 38 points and two sides were already relegated.

Fans reacting to the ‘too early to tell’ table have taken it with a pinch of salt, but the suggestion of three wins and five draws has hit home with some supporters, given relegation is a real concern for us after the summer exodus of last season’s key figures.

Here’s how these Toon fans reacted to United being placed dead last, 19 points from safety with four games to play…

Laughing stock of the whole league ✊✊ thanks Ashley from r/NUFC
