Are The Magpies About To Raid Their Bitter Rivals?

|

Reports in The Sun today claim that Newcastle are keeping tabs on Sunderland’s rising star, Chris Rigg and may be ready to swoop in with a £2.5m bid.

Rigg is currently rated as the hottest prospect in the country. At just 15 years of age, he’s already making a name for himself on the international scene, turning out regularly for England and Sunderland’s Under 21s.

As painful as it is to admit, Sunderland have turned out some pretty decent players with the likes of the Jordans, Henderson and Pickford going on to be England regulars.

If the Magpies were to go ahead with a £2.5m move for Rigg, it would be a record transfer for a player so young. Of course, Sunderland will be desperate to keep hold of the midfielder, but money talks in football and a record bid may be too much for the Black Cats to resist.

On top of that, Rigg’s family are Newcastle supporters, so that could possibly turn his head our way.

As good as it is that Newcastle are looking to the future chasing the likes of Rigg, it makes it all the sweeter that they’re willing to pick the pockets of Sunderland to do it.

Newcastle are also said to be interested in another rising star in Motherwell striker, Lennon Miller who just became their youngest ever first-team player coming on as a substitute against Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the League Cup.
