The second US faller in the race for NUFC is Philip Anschutz, the LA Galaxy owner worth around £5bn. With Clark Hunt having issued a stern ‘no` through his spokesperson yesterday, Anchutz`s people have gone on record to say:

‘Neither AEG nor anyone affiliated with the organisation are in negotiations or are contemplating the purchase of Newcastle United Football Club.”

So far that leaves just Paul Allen, the co-founder of Microsoft, and Mark Cuban, the Dallas Mavericks owner, as the two mooted parties left officially interested in the club.
