According to the Twitterati and @Ekremkonour, yet another French star is being touted around with Newcastle United and Olympique Lyon both reportedly interested in signing the 25 year old.
Issa Diop, who is currently playing as a centre-back with West Ham United started his career at Toulouse in 2006 and began training with the 1st team in 2015. He was part of an influx of young talented players into the squad which included, Alban Lafont, Zinédine Machach and Alexis Blin.
Diop made 30 Ligue 1 appearances in 2016-17 before being made captain of his hometown club TOULOUSE in April 2017.
With the premier league calling, the Frenchman moved onto West Ham United for a fee reported to be £22m which at the time was reported as a club record.
Newcastle United have previously signed other French players with varying degrees of success, players such as the current star Allan Saint Maximin, and former stars such as Yoan Gouffran and Florian Lejeune and Moussa Sissoko and the fans favourite Laurent Robert to name but a few.
One thing is certain, Newcastle will shop wisely, with many fans looking at Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark and their apparent dips in form. The central midfield area certainly needs an injection of steel to provide the protection that Dubravka has needed this season but has only received sporadically.
Diop only made 13 appearances for West Ham last season, and they were largely as a result of injuries to other more prominent team members, he is now trailing as 4th choice behind Craig Dawson, Angelo Ogbonna and the ever present cat kicking, Kurt Zouma!
Fans at Newcastle would be expecting that with the new appointment of Dan Ashworth that the Magpies would be setting their sights a little higher than a 4th tier West Ham central defender.
