Newcastle United’s mercurial winger Allan Saint-Maximin has well and truly saved the day as he almost single handedly dragged United to a vital 2-1 win over fellow strugglers Burnley.

Oh, how we have missed the excellence of tricky superstar. Rarely does a player come along that gets you off your seat as much as this lad. He is a true entertainer and with end product added to his game, there is no limits to where his brilliance could take him in the game.

But for now he is our player and I am fully intent on enjoying him for as long as possible. The win is fantastic as it means we have taken a huge step on the way to Premier League survival which in turn increasing the possibility of the St. James’ Park crowd getting to see Saint-Maximin in a black and white shirt again.

There is no doubt what so ever that if ASM hadn’t came on when he did, Newcastle would have found themselves on the wrong side of yet another Premier League defeat and being unable to make advantage of Fulham’s mishap on Friday.

For all we have won, questions should surely be asked of Bruce and why he didn’t start to the Frenchman. He came on against Spurs and looked very sharp and certainly ready for a more prominent role in the side.

By sticking with the same system instead of introducing Saint into the starting 11, Bruce left us seriously underprepared for the challenges of Burnley and they had it far too easy for the first hour.

Within two minutes of his inclusion, Saint-Maximin had set up Jacob Murphy for the equaliser and just five minutes after that he slotted home the winner from outside the box.

Burnley could deal with everything United looked to throw at them, long balls forward and attempted balls in behind are their bread and butter, without the change we could have played all day and not scored.

The one thing they struggle with is the genuine pace and trickery provided by Saint-Maximin, they did not have a clue what to do with him when being ran at and it allowed Steve Bruce’s men to walk away with a thoroughly undeserved three points.

His place in the team should be an absolute given after this and there is no doubt in my mind that Allan Saint-Maximin will keep us in the division, what a player!
