With Rafa Benitez spearheading a magnificent achievement this season in keeping Newcastle United in the premier league and the club set to recoup the riches that go with it, attention is turning towards one man.
That man is Mike Ashley.
Where Newcastle go from here is plainly and simply in the hands of the businessman that doesn’t know how to run a football club but past lessons must surely dictate a change this time around with experience of doing the wrong thing the yardstick.
If we stand still in the way of not investing then it’s another gambling relegation battle next season as it guarantees you go backwards. Ashley’s history here of not investing unless he thinks the club is in trouble should surely have brought him too many sleepless nights to contemplate gambling with our future again but nothing is certain with the man.
Takeover talks being classified as smokescreens and a negative transfer spend set against a backdrop of tension between Rafa and the board have failed to stop the magnificent job done this season but there is a genuine chance to kick on now for a relatively low cost.
With absolutely no risk to Ashley’s capital based on the fact that the premier league provide the funds for participating in the division and the final finishing spot coupled with TV cash, an adequate spend is easily recoupable with a world-class man pulling the strings in Rafa Benitez. It’s foolproof but we’ll find out the real intentions soon enough.
Over to you Mike, for once can we not suffer the inevitable fall that follows one of our rises.
