Newcastle United have found things difficult this season but the mood level has improved around Tyneside this week after picking up a valuable three points at the weekend.
The Magpies finally secured a Premier League victory at the 11th time of asking at home to Watford on Saturday, courtesy of Ayoze Perez’s goal, and also kept a fourth clean sheet of the season.
Often overlooked due to the club’s struggles, with a lot of focus being placed on the issues in front of goal, Newcastle’s defence has provided a bright spark and one major positive has been the performance of Martin Dubravka.
Signed on loan from Sparta Prague in January, Dubravka excelled in the second half of last season to help the Magpies retain their Premier League status and has continued in that vein of form after making his move permanent in the summer.
After a stat emerged that showed only three goalkeepers have kept more clean sheets in the Premier League this season, Newcastle fans took to Twitter to heap praise on the Slovenia international.
