Newcastle United have only 9 points left to play for in this year’s battle in the Championship.

With the games dwindling down now at the real business end of the campaign as Newcastle United find themselves heading towards the end of May, there is now a seven point deficit to Brighton in first place following two recent defeats and the draw to Leeds United.

Automatic promotion remains very much in our hands, but our loss of form came at the wrong time, and whilst it’s not over as a battle, regaining top spot looks very unlikely at this point in time.

There is however no reason why we can’t make it difficult for Brighton and take all nine points available given the opposition and then we hope they slip up as we did.

Promotion was the clear aim for the year though and returning to the Premier League at the first time of asking, and again, that remains in our hands so that has to take the full focus and get that right, and we don’t need to look at Reading or Huddersfield Town and what they do with their remaining games.
