Stuttgart have emerged as favourites for Boca Juniors midfielder Nahitan Nandez with Kicker reporting that the Uruguayan international is keen on a move to Germany.
Reports from Argentina had indicated that we had enquired about the 22-year-old, but it seems the Bundesliga club are leading the race for the World Cup star.
TYC Sports previously reported Stuttgart’s interest a couple of weeks ago, stating that Boca rate Nandez at $16m (£12.2m) but the Argentinian club were not prepared to let him go until December.
Reports since then have suggested that the player has a release clause of €21.5m (£19m), and if this figure is correct, it is likely to have deterred Rafa Benitez from making a move.
The club are looking at bringing in a striker, a fullback, a number 10 and probably another centre-back, but Rafa Benitez may only have the proceeds of Aleksandar Mitrovic’s sale to Fulham to spend on new recruits.
